De Mis-Edventures is gericht op kinderen. Het heeft een mix van alles, maar blinkt echt nergens in uit. Hoewel de game eruitziet en klinkt als de tv-show, doet de gameplay denken aan een budgetgame. Ik moest goed kijken om er zeker van te zijn dat er geen gat in de doos zat waar het in zat.
De drie jongens van de Cul-de-Sac zijn op zoek naar knallers en doen hun gebruikelijke zwendelpraktijken. De niveaus in dit spel worden scams genoemd. Ze bevatten verschillende doelen die absoluut vreemd zijn, wat te verwachten is, maar vanuit een strikt spelstandpunt zijn ze stompzinnig en verwarrend.
Elementen als het oplossen van puzzels, getimede evenementen, stealth, platformactie en gevechten zitten in zowat elke zwendel. Er is een behoorlijke hoeveelheid variatie, maar het past niet allemaal bij elkaar. Het verhaal is lukraak en hoewel dat niet echt een probleem is gezien de maffe aard van de show, voelen de doelstellingen alsof ze gewoon bij elkaar zijn gegooid om een videogame te maken. Beginnend met een tutorial leer je de verschillende manieren waarop je de drie karakters kunt gebruiken. Ze hebben niet alleen verschillende capaciteiten, maar ze zijn ook in staat om hun talenten te combineren om grotere doelen te bereiken. Met een druk op de knop wissel je hiertussen. Het is zeker geen nieuw concept en de ontwikkelaars hebben niet hun best gedaan om enig aspect ervan uniek te maken.
Dan komen we bij de personages zelf. Elk van hen is gewoon in wezen dwaas. Ik snap de aantrekkingskracht van deze jongens niet echt. Ze zijn als een kruising tussen Beavis and Butthead en Dennis the Menace - alleen vervelender. Hun stemmen raspen en wat ze zeggen is helemaal niet grappig. Het is alsof je droomde dat grappig was, maar niet eens in de buurt kwam toen je weer bij bewustzijn kwam. Het goede nieuws is dat de gamepersonages vrijwel identiek zijn aan hun cartoon-tegenhangers. Zelfs de stemmen worden geleverd door dezelfde acteurs, als acteurs inderdaad de juiste term voor hen is. Om je verder gek te maken, is de dialoog beperkt tot een handvol regels per karakter. Ze blijven dezelfde irritante dingen keer op keer herhalen.
Ed is de lange man. Hij kan met dingen gooien, in de zandbak graven en zijn andere twee vriendjes gebruiken om een stormram te vormen. Edd is de slimme. Hij is perfect voor het omdraaien van schakelaars en heeft een katapult die hij gebruikt om doelen te raken. Eddie is de leider. Hij heeft stinkbommen, een jojo en kan een toren vormen met Edd bovenop om hoge plaatsen te bereiken. De game dwingt je om meerdere keren per missie door al hun vaardigheden te scrollen. Het is aan jou om erachter te komen wie je in welke combinatie gebruikt.
Vaak loop je vast omdat de puzzels zo willekeurig zijn dat je, zelfs nadat je ze hebt opgelost of een walkthrough hebt bekeken, nog steeds je hoofd schudt en je afvraagt hoe je dat in godsnaam ooit had kunnen bedenken. Er is veel vallen en opstaan en als je veel tijd hebt, kun je misschien enkele van deze oplossingen tegenkomen. Houd er rekening mee dat alle drie de personages dezelfde gezondheidsmeter delen en dat er kleine beestjes zoals spinnen, ratten en eekhoorns zijn die je constant irriteren en je gezondheid aantasten terwijl je dingen voor elkaar probeert te krijgen. Fans van de show kunnen dit misschien volhouden, maar de gemiddelde gamer zal snel beseffen dat er hier iets aan de hand is dat gewoon niet past bij andere games van dit genre.
Verzamelen is het uiteindelijke doel van de gameplay. Doorzoek alle zandbakken, zoek naar verstopplekken en probeer kippeneieren, kledingstukken en kaakbrekers te vinden. Als je alle kaakbrekers vindt, ontgrendel je enkele cheatcodes. De kippeneieren helpen je om verschillende modi te ontgrendelen en als je alle kleding vindt, ontgrendel je nieuwe niveaus - of zwendel. Je hoeft niet alles in één keer te vinden. U kunt sommige zwendelpraktijken die u al heeft voltooid opnieuw bekijken en zoeken naar die moeilijk te vinden items. Dat is ongeveer alles waar je naar uitkijkt voor herspeelwaarde.
U zult ook wat moeite hebben om precies te weten te komen wat er vervolgens van u wordt verwacht. De missies zijn niet voor je beschreven en dat kan enige angst veroorzaken, aangezien sommigen van ons, niet-fans, niet tevreden zijn met alleen maar in de Cul-de-Sal te hangen. Sommigen van ons willen iets constructiefs doen - of in dit geval destructiefs.
Er is geen modus voor meerdere spelers, ondanks het feit dat deze game smeekt om een coöp voor drie spelers. Ik accepteer zelfs een modus voor twee spelers. Het gemiste potentieel van deze game is schokkend. Ze hebben het avontuur echt gemist in deze Mis-Edventure.
Dezelfde lelijke graphics van het tv-programma worden hier bijna perfect gerepliceerd. Als ik lelijk zeg, realiseer ik me dat ze opzettelijk zo zijn getekend en het is zeker een welkome afwisseling van anime. De muziek is grillig en geleid door een ingetogen saxofoon, het is het coolste aspect van de productiewaarden. De besturing reageert een beetje traag en het duurt even voordat de personages op snelheid komen tijdens het lopen. En nu ik toch bezig ben, kan ik net zo goed de camerahoeken noemen die op sommige plaatsen vastlopen. Er zijn gewoon te veel gebreken in het spel om het aan te bevelen.
